Tegallalang is famous not just for its rice terraces but also for a 5km stretch of road lined with woodcarving workshops. Hundreds of family workshops carve everything imaginable — from small souvenir figurines to massive teak Buddha statues 3m tall.
Most workshops let you watch the master carvers at work, and many will custom-carve a piece to order (delivery in 1-2 weeks). Prices are much lower than in Ubud or Seminyak because you're buying directly from the maker. International shipping easily arranged for larger pieces.
