Jatiluwih Rice Terraces (UNESCO)

📍 Jatiluwih Village, Penebel, Tabanan 82152

Jatiluwih is Bali's largest and most spectacular rice terrace system, inscribed as UNESCO World Heritage in 2012 for its traditional subak water management. Spread across 600 hectares at the foot of Mount Batukaru, these terraces embody the Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana — harmony between people, nature, and the divine.

Walking trails wind through the fields, offering panoramic views best enjoyed at sunrise. The subak system, still managed by local farmers, has produced rice for over 1,000 years. Small warungs along the trails serve traditional Balinese food and coffee from local plantations.

Best time: early morning (6-9 AM) for photography and cooler temperatures. Entrance fee ~40,000 IDR. Guided walks available. 30 minutes from Nirjhara Eco-Resort.
