Danau Tamblingan is one of three sacred crater lakes north of Bedugul — smaller and quieter than nearby Buyan and Beratan. Set at 1,200m altitude inside an ancient volcanic caldera, it's surrounded by virgin cloud forest full of leaf monkeys, birds, and wild orchids.
Traditional dugout canoes (perahu boat) can be paddled around the lake by local villagers. Pura Ulun Danu Tamblingan temple on the shore is one of Bali's most atmospheric — moss-covered pagodas emerge from the mist. Great birdwatching, hiking, camping.
