Visa
Visa on Arrival (VoA) 500k IDR (~30 EUR), valid 30 days, extendable by 30 more at Immigration. Free entry for selected EU countries up to 30 days. Check current rules just before flying.
Currency
Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). 1 EUR ≈ 17,000 IDR (July 2026). Exchange at licensed kiosks (BMC, Central Kuta Money Exchange). ATMs everywhere — use BCA, BRI, Mandiri (40k IDR fee). Cards work at hotels and better restaurants, warungs cash only.
Transport
- Car with driver — 500-700k IDR/day (safest);
- Grab / GoJek — local Uber, app, good prices (note: some beaches blocked by local taxi mafias);
- Scooter — 50-80k IDR/day. Requires international driver's license. Helmet mandatory. Always photograph damage on pickup;
- Bluebird taxi — only metered, trusted.
SIM card
Telkomsel — best coverage. Tourist package 20 GB / 30 days = 100-150k IDR. Buy at airport or any mini-mart (Alfamart, Indomaret). eSIM via Airalo for convenience (pricier).
Power
European sockets type C/F (like Poland), 230V/50Hz. Often no earth — don't charge equipment requiring it.
Health
- Travel insurance with evacuation — mandatory (helicopter to Singapore = tens of thousands of euros);
- Rabies — Bali officially rabies-free but dog bites happen. Preventive vaccination worth considering;
- Dengue and malaria — repellent, mosquito net. Malaria rare in Bali;
- Bali Belly — traveller's diarrhea. Probiotics, no tap water, no salads washed in tap water.
Culture
- Remove shoes in homes and temples;
- Right hand for giving and receiving (left is considered unclean);
- Don't touch children's heads (sacred);
- 5-10% tips at restaurants noted but not expected at warungs.
